§ 20-20. Games of chance.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person or persons, firm, corporation, company or association of individuals to set up or operate any game of chance, gambling table, horse parlor, lottery or gambling device or scheme of any description within the town except that the mayor and town council may, at their discretion, through the town administrator, and not in conflict with the ordinances of Prince George's County, authorize games of chance to be conducted by nonprofit groups for charitable purposes.

    (b)

    Requests for exceptions to this will be directed to the town administrator. The town administrator may issue permits for games of chance to be conducted by nonprofit organizations, in accordance with regulations approved by the mayor and council. Should the town administrator deny a request for an exception permit, the applicant may appeal this decision, in writing, to the mayor and council. The mayor and council will consider the appeal at their next public meeting which follows, by at least five (5) days, receipt of the appeal.
